Well good bye 2013 and the goodbye to the first 7 months of my 12 month challenge to raise money for the Alziemer's Society. So far, with the kind help of friends, family and kind supporters I have raised £2300. When i started out on this crazy mid-life crisis I was aiming for around £2000 across the 12 month period so Its all going so much better than I expected.
I have a few events lined up for the new year including a quiz night, another band and buffet event on the 22nd March and another 'soak your manager in the stocks' event at Dudley council. This time I have the director of Social Services in my sights! He has already agreed verbally but I will not be satisfied until he is in the prone position with the stocks firmly clamped over his head. Visit my blog later on in the Spring for further details of how to join in.
In the meantime if you would like to get involved in the fund-raising, perhaps by donating a raffle prize or asking your company if they would consider sponsoring me, please just drop me a comment.
A happy and peaceful 2014 everyone.

Fundraising Event for the Alzheimer's Society in Brierley Hill
A Brierley Hill social
worker has set herself the challenge of spending a year fund-raising
charity. Kate Weston, 39, has decided to dedicate 12 months raising funds
for the Alzheimer’s Society, culminating in a self funded, sponsored hike
across the Himalayas next October.
‘I think people
suffering with dementia are often overlooked’ says Kate ‘but there are about
800,000 people in the UK with the disease and it is a growing demographic,
likely to touch everyone of us in some way and at some point in our lives’.
So far Kate has
established a successful tuck shop in her office at Dudley council and held a
‘Put your Manager in the Stocks’ event –raising over £500 to date. She
has even got her family involved with Mom, Sheila, holding a successful coffee
morning for neighbours.
The next big event is a
‘band and buffet’ night on the 30th November to be held at David Lloyd leisure
Centre, Pensnett Road, Brierley Hill. Lending their services are
Halesowen Based 'Uncle Ian's Audio Circus' and local music man Mark Moran (of
Spex Maniacs fame). Tickets are on sale now at £13 for members and £15
for members of the public. Included in the entry price is a buffet, live
music from local band ‘Uncle Ian’s Audio Circus’ and a disco.
‘It should be a great
night out and I want to see as many people there as possible’ enthuses Kate.
‘There will also be a raffle, a women's clothes sale and an opportunity to buy
some handmade jewellery’.
If you would like to
come and join the pre-Christmas fun please call Kate on 07855 619818 to book
your tickets or ask on the reception at the gym before 7th November.
